Family #1
Alba was a victim of a robbery. She was outside of her apartment complex selling her shampoo products when she was approached at gun point. Gang members robbed her and threatened to kill her and her family if she reported the incident to the police. Alba lives with her husband Samuel and 14-year-old daughter, and she also has adult sons who are in their mid-
20s and early 30s. Alba suffered trauma and severe depression and is unable to work at the moment. A few weeks after the crime, Alba’s severe depression escalated and she ended up in the hospital. She was hospitalized a few days due to the severe depression and trauma she experienced. Since the crime, Alba only leaves her apartment when she is accompanied by her husband or adult sons. Alba no longer sells shampoo to the people in the surrounding area
because she is afraid that she may encounter another robbery. She feels that is not able to financially provide for her family because of the crime. Alba started attending counseling to help her cope with the depression and anxiety she has been experiencing. This family could certainly use some holiday cheer this year.
Family #6
Joanna called 911 to report that her mom’s boyfriend had been sexually assaulting her. Her older sister Alondra was interviewed and reluctantly disclosed the same. She had reported to Mom at some point and Mom had kicked him out, only to allow him to return home a week later. Jail calls show that Mom told the defendant she would bail him out so they could flee to Mexico together. The judge ordered no bail for the defendant and charges were filed against mom for endangerment. Social services took all the minors (6 in total) and placed them at Orangewood temporarily. The three teens are now living with their older sister Alondra, her boyfriend Jesus and their newborn. The three younger ones are placed with their godfather and have visitation with their siblings on the weekends. Alondra is only 20 years old and is supporting her teen sisters, along with her newborn. Their world has been turned completely upside down, not only by not living together but also now spending the holidays without their Mom. Alondra is adjusting as a first-time mother and navigating this new family dynamic while working with Social Services to ensure she is able to care for her siblings. She is currently on maternity leave while her boyfriend works to provide for their new family.
